About This Episode

Alison Greenberg co-founded Ruth Health along with Audrey Wu, to make pregnancy easier and provide better maternal care by offering at-home ultrasounds, pregnancy coaching and pelvic training. Their startup is currently a part of the S21 batch of Y Combinator.

Alison talked to us about meeting her co-founder while they both worked in the conversational AI field, and why they eventually decided to leave it to work on a medical device startup. Alison and Audrey built Dioptra, which was focused on redesigning a speculum to be more comfortable and easier to clean.

Alison discussed how Dioptra became a jumping off point for disrupting the entire landscape of maternal and pregnancy care. She also shares how the process of pivoting from medical hardware product to a B2C prenatal and postpartum services company looked like for them.

Alison and Greg also talk about the hardships of startup recruitment and what tactics can be used by startups to effectively recruit some of the key employees. Alison also gives her thoughts on improving access to medical records, and what the future holds for Ruth Health and other companies in the digital health space.
